Jewellery is something that humans have enjoyed throughout almost the entirety of their history, regardless of the religion, race, or culture. Jewelry in one form or another has been quite popular throughout many of the cultures of history, as a form of expression, and also as a form of showing your social status within a given culture. However, the jewelry has taken many different shapes and forms over that period of time. The materials used to manufacture the jewelry have changed quite a bit since the early days of jewelry. Early jewelry consisted of necklaces made of natural elements, or beads that had been shaped. Later, after we were able to harvest precious metals, we began to find jewelry that utilized gold and other metals, as a way to convey well.
Depending on the culture, jewelry may function as either a fashion, or a sign of artistic expression. In some cultures, jewelry is used to attract mates, with a wide variety of different kinds of jewelry available. Precious metals and gemstones have been used throughout the history of jewelry, in bowl Greek and Roman cultures, as well as early Egyptian culture, and in order to convey a message.
Jewelry during the middle-age was affected heavily by Christianity, as it spread around the world. During that time, many of the different types of jewelry symbolized events from the Bible, or pieces of the Christian faith. At this time, Christian organizations became responsible for manufacturing and distributing a large amount of the world’s jewelry while spreading the religion.
Jewelry during the Renaissance period, was very different from other periods. Prior to this, jewelry had mostly been used to symbolize something you believed in, or to show off your wealth. However, during the Renaissance. Jewelry became used for body decoration, in an effort to improve the presentation of the individual, which had differed from its use in many previous cultures.
